Nils Ivar Bohlin, creator of the three-point lap/shoulder automobile seatbelt, was born on July 17, 1920 in Harnosand, Sweden. In 1939, he completed his BS in mechanical engineering at Harnosand Laroveik. In 1942, he began working for Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget (Saab Aircraft Company) as an aircraft designer.
